A reminder of the brevity of life came my way a few days ago as I attended my mother’s sister’s funeral. Aunt Doris was a generous, joyful, godly woman who was loved dearly by her immediate and extended family.
Her life clearly marked her as a follower of Jesus with almost 90 years of submitting to His influence. In my observation, the one decision that must have inspired many of her thoughts and actions over her long and happy life, was her decision to extend mercy and compassion to even those who were difficult to love.
She didn’t shun people or condone their questionable behavior. Instead she adopted Jesus’ attitudes and extended hands of grace to them. Surely she opened doors to God’s healing presence.
